The Telecom Regulatory Authority of india (TRAI) has implemented new regulations to prolong the validity of SIM cards in an effort to assist mobile customers who frequently forget to recharge their secondary SIMs.
These rules, which would assist consumers save costs and avoiding repeated recharges, will be applicable to major telecom carriers including jio, airtel, Vi, and BSNL.
Airtel and jio SIM Validity Rules: No Recharge for 90 Days
Users of jio will not need to recharge their SIM card for ninety days. Depending on the user's most recent recharge plan, the availability of incoming calls may change throughout this time. The SIM will be permanently removed and transferred to a new user if no recharge is made within the allotted ninety days.
Airtel SIMs don't need to be recharged for more than ninety days. Users will then have a grace period of 15 days to reactivate their number. The number will be closed and made available to a new user if they don't recharge within this window of time.
Validity of Vi and bsnl SIM Cards: Extended Durations and Recharge Choices
The validity period for Vi users will be 90 days without the requirement for a recharge. To keep the SIM operational after this time, a minimum recharge of Rs 49 is needed. However, the government-owned telecom company bsnl has the longest validity, allowing SIMs to remain operational for up to 180 days without requiring a recharge. Because of this, bsnl is a great choice for customers who would rather not have to reload frequently.
The user's prepaid balance of Rs 20 will be subtracted to prolong the SIM's activation for an extra 30 days if the SIM is dormant for more than 90 days. The SIM will be terminated and made accessible to new users if the balance is not adequate. The purpose of these modifications is to give indian mobile consumers more convenience and freedom.
