The PVR Inox app now has a new function called ScreenIT. Users can choose to join an existing screening or create a show from the available repertoire. Now, moviegoers have the option to select which movies they would want to see re-released in theaters. This eliminates the need to wait for previous titles to be brought back by exhibitors or producers.

The concept draws on recent re-releases' popularity. Re-released films like Tumbbad were overwhelmingly well-received, while Shah Rukh Khan favorites like Veer Zaara and Kal Ho Na Ho also attracted sizable crowds. Last year, reruns were sleeper successes, and PVR Inox is counting on their ongoing popularity to increase attendance.

Cinema attendance fell to 88.3 crore last year, a considerable decline. This was a drop of 6% from 2023's 94.3 crore and below 2022's 89.2 crore record. It was one of the largest drops for the theater industry, excluding the epidemic years. PVR Inox is addressing this by empowering viewers to personalize programming for timeless favorites. Audiences may enjoy the screening with their group by selecting their favorite movie, time, and place using the ScreenIT function.

With hopes to soon reach almost 1,000 films, the ScreenIT collection now has over 500 titles. The program, which has been implemented in tier-1 cities, gives viewers a special opportunity to revisit beloved films on a large screen. Although PVR Inox's ScreenIT function may appear novel, it really draws attention to more serious problems in the film business. A lack of faith in producing original, captivating material is indicated by the dependence on re-releases. By focusing just on tier-1 cities, a large audience is left out, further dividing urban and rural areas.

Furthermore, employing nostalgia to increase attendance seems like a short-term solution to the problem of diminishing attendance, which fell to 88.3 crore the previous year. Classics may appeal to some audiences, but newer viewers might not feel the same way. Rather than depending on older movies, the emphasis should be on reasonable prices, regulating popcorn and other food prices, offering a variety of stories, and catering to changing audience preferences.
