In China, a resolute grandpa who refused to sell his property for a highway project currently resides in a house in the center of the motorway following its completion. Huang Ping regrets turning down the £180,000 (about Rs 2 crore) offer he got since his two-story Jinxi home is now surrounded by a building site and he is always surrounded by dust and noise from builders.

Huang said he is concerned about what life would be like on his land after the highway opens and that the cash offer from the Chinese government now looks fair. "I would accept the demolition terms they provided if I could go back in time. He remarked, "I feel like I lost a big bet now." The two-story home is encircled by the vast highway in a social media video, and its roof is almost level with two lanes of the highway.

The grandpa, who lives with his 11-year-old grandson, first objected to the government's offer because he didn't like it. Following protracted discussions, the authorities gave up and started building around his house. Residents come to snap pictures at the elderly man's house because of his resistance, which has made it a famous destination. In China, he is now known as the "strong nail house owner." The phrase "nail house" refers to an inhabited residence where the owners are opposing real estate development.
