Modi Government's Top Budget Announcements in Last Decade..!?

The central government led by prime minister Narendra Modi is set to present the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-26 on february 1. Now, let's look at some of the most impressive schemes presented by the Modi government so far. The Modi government announced the very popular "Save the daughter, educate the daughter" (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) scheme in its first budget. The late arun jaitley, who was the then Finance minister, allocated Rs. 100 crores for this scheme aimed at the education, empowerment, and protection of the girl child.

Gold bonds: The late Finance minister arun jaitley announced the gold Bond scheme in his second budget (2015). Instead of buying gold in metal form, it is bought in paper form. The Modi government brought this scheme with the aim of reducing gold imports. This scheme is currently being well received by the people.

Free LPG connections: In 2016, arun jaitley announced in his budget speech that free LPG connections would be provided to families below the poverty line in the name of the female member of the family. In May of that year, the Petroleum Ministry launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to provide cooking gas to rural households. Under this scheme, women are still getting LPG cylinders at subsidized rates.
National Testing Agency: In the 2017 budget, the National Testing Agency (NTA) was announced to conduct entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions. The National Testing Agency was set up in november 2017 under the indian Societies Registration Act, 1860. Currently, the agency also conducts exams like NEET, UGC-NET.

Ayushman Bharat: In the 2018 Budget, arun jaitley announced a National health Insurance Scheme for 10 crore families. The scheme was later renamed as Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat. The insurance scheme has been extended to more people.

PAN and Aadhaar interchangeability: In the full Budget 2019, Finance minister nirmala sitharaman announced that PAN and Aadhaar can be used interchangeably. From this year onwards, taxpayers can also file their taxes using their Aadhaar number.

New Tax Code: In the 2020 Budget, Finance minister nirmala sitharaman introduced a new tax code with the aim of making it easier for the common man to file taxes. It had higher tax brackets for different income brackets. However, it had fewer exemptions.

Covid Vaccine: In 2021, Finance minister nirmala sitharaman allocated Rs 35,000 crore for Covid-19 vaccines in her first budget after the Covid-19 virus claimed thousands of lives in our country. As a result, vaccines were developed quickly and given free to the people.

Kathishakti: In the 2021 Budget, Union Finance minister nirmala sitharaman introduced a 30 percent tax on cryptocurrency capital gains in an attempt to ban cryptocurrency. The Kathishakti scheme was introduced with the aim of accelerating infrastructure work including roads, railways, airports, public transport, and freight transport.

Change in tax brackets in the new tax regime: In the 2023 Budget, the Finance minister introduced changes in the income tax brackets of the new tax regime. Under the new tax regime, people with an income of up to Rs 7 lakh will not have to pay income tax.

Vande Bharat train Coaches: There were no major changes or announcements in the interim budget presented by nirmala sitharaman in 2024. However, she announced that 40,000 ordinary train coaches would be converted into high-speed Vande Bharat train coaches.
