In 1967, Vimi made her bollywood debut in the hit movie Hamraaz, which made her a household name. She later worked on movies like Vachan and Aabroo with well-known actors like sunil Dutt, Shashi Kapoor, and Raaj Kumar. Vimi quickly rose to prominence as one of the most sought-after actresses of her day, earning an astounding Rs 3 lakh for each film in the 1960s, even though she was married and had two kids when she started performing.
Despite having a prosperous job, Vimi struggled in her personal life. After divorcing her affluent husband, Shiv Agarwal, she began dating a modest producer named Jolly. Jolly allegedly coerced her into prostitution, thus their relationship, unfortunately, took a bad turn.
Vimi was sad after leaving the violent relationship and resorted to drinking as a coping mechanism. She started a modest business in calcutta in an attempt to start again, but it failed and she was left insolvent. Her personal and professional lives had fallen apart in ten years.
Vimi's alcoholism caused her health to decline at the age of 34. After being admitted to the hospital, she tragically died of liver problems. Tragically, she passed away alone, and because of her severe financial difficulties, her body had to be wheeled on a handcart to the cremation site.
Vimi's life is a tragic reminder of how easily success and celebrity may elude one, and how Bollywood's glitzy culture can turn its backs on its celebrities when they lose their path.
