Rahul gandhi, a congressman, stepped up his criticism of arvind kejriwal, the leader of the aam aadmi party (AAP), on Thursday, claiming that the former chief minister of delhi "lies just like [Prime Minister] narendra modi but is probably more cunning and sophisticated than the PM."

Speaking at a rally in the Badli seat in north-west delhi, the congress leader said that Mr. kejriwal and his colleague manish Sisodia had "indulged in corruption themselves and forgotten all their promises" after entering politics with the intention of combating corruption.

"I would want to remind Mr. kejriwal of his false assurances. "I challenge him to drink the water from the taps in Badli instead of making the yamuna drinkable," the Rae bareli MP remarked during the rally in favor of delhi congress president Devender Yadav, the party's nominee for the seat.

"You must never lose sight of those who support you, defend the Constitution, and speak the truth. Wherever the congress has taken power, it has fulfilled its pledges in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka," he continued.

According to Mr. gandhi, voters need to keep in mind the progress made for different societal segments under the administrations of former prime minister Indira gandhi and former delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

"We work for the poor, Dalits, tribals, minorities, farmers, and labourers," he stated. "Mahatma gandhi was killed on this day [October 30, 1948] because he was fighting hatred and uniting Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs, and protecting Dalits," he said in his critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Who was his murderer? the same individuals whose beliefs are currently destroying the nation." The BJP, according to Mr. gandhi, is "against minorities, Dalits, the backward classes, and the poor" and "spreading hatred."
