Karnataka Man Slits Sindhanoor College Student's Throat After She Turns Down marriage Proposal

A 24-year-old college student was brutally murdered reportedly by her former acquaintance after she refused his marriage proposal. The crime took place in Sindhanoor town, Raichur district of Karnataka. The victim was identified as Shifa, who was pursuing an MSc at a private college in Sindhanoor and the accused was Mubin.
The victim, Shifa had known Mubin, a tile shop worker, for six years. police revealed that Mubin had developed strong feelings for her and was pressuring her to marry him, as per a report on IANS. However, her family had started arranging her marriage with another man.
Enraged by her rejection, Mubin followed Shifa from Lingasaguru and attacked her near Sindhanoor government Graduation College. He first stabbed her in the neck and then slit her throat before fleeing the scene. After committing the crime, he stormed into the footwear shop of the man whom Shifa’s family had chosen for her and caused a commotion.
Later, Mubin proceeded to Lingasaguru police station, where he surrendered, as reported by Deccan Herald. Superintendent of police Puttamadaiah visited the crime scene and directed the authorities to tighten security measures around colleges. The police have registered a case and are interrogating the accused. Further investigations are ongoing.
This incident is the latest in a series of brutal attacks on women by rejected suitors in Karnataka. On april 18, 2024, a jilted lover, Fayaz Kondikoppa, murdered MCA student Neha Hiremath by repeatedly stabbing her on her college campus in Hubballi city.
At the time of the incident, Neha's father Niranjan Hiremath was the congress councillor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.
Several organisations including BJP staged protests demanding justice for the victim. Later, karnataka CM shifted the case to CID for a detailed investigation.
