These days, there are changes to the H-1B visa procedure every other day. In an attempt to reduce fraud and improve the system's fairness, the US Citizenship and Immigration services (USCIS) has recently proposed changes. Limiting an individual to a single registration is the most significant change. In the past, several employers might submit submissions for the same candidate, which gave some of them an unfair advantage.

Given that statistics point to a sharp decline in fraud applications, USCIS claims that this will promote equity and openness. In the fiscal year 2025, the number of eligible registrants has decreased by 38.6%. At 442,000, the total number of unique applications remained constant.

In order to prevent duplicate registrations, the authorities are now also requesting passport data. They have warned that anyone who submits fraudulent information will be removed and may be subject to legal action. Less competition from fraudulent entries implies more equitable opportunities for indian candidates, which is excellent news. A method that is founded on merit rather than flaws benefits employers as well. For FY 2026, USCIS intends to make more system improvements. It's a step in the right direction for the time being, but only time will tell if it actually levels the playing field.
