The Finance Ministry informed that as of december 31, 2024, 2,52,886 lakh 10 rupee notes are circulating in the market, worth Rs 25289 crore. As of 31 december 2024, 79,502 lakh 10 rupee coins are present in the market in the country, which are worth Rs 7950 crore.
New 20 rupee notes are still being printed
Along with this, the Finance Ministry was asked whether the printing of new 20 rupee notes has been banned in the country. Responding to the question, the Finance Ministry said that no, it is not so. That is, it is clear that even though you are seeing less 10 rupee and 20 rupee notes and coins in the market, they are still in circulation. The news of discontinuation or going out of circulation from time to time is completely misleading.
20 rupee coins were issued for the first time in 2020
According to the Times of india report, the government had issued a 20 rupee coin for the first time in 2020. At that time, the government had said that the 20 rupee coin would be a polygon with 12 edges and would have the shape of grains, which would show the agricultural dominance in the country. Apart from this, a new series of one, two, five and ten rupee coins will also be issued, which will be in circular design and on which the value will be written in hindi script.
In the information given by the Finance Ministry, it was said that the weight of the 20 rupee coin will be 8.54 grams and its outer diameter will be 27 mm, in which the outer ring will be nickel silver and the middle part will be nickel brass. The front part of the new 20 rupee coin will have 'Lion capital of Ashoka Pillar' inscribed on it and 'Satyamev Jayate' will be written below. 'Bharat' will be written in hindi on the left circumference and 'India' in english on the right circumference.
