Jaya Bachchan, a bollywood actress, and Samajwadi party politician, has caused controversy with her remarks on the 2025 maha Kumbh Mela. She said that dead bodies from a stampede were dumped in the river, further polluting the already contaminated Sangam water.
 
Jaya challenged the government's management of the event, pointing out the dearth of amenities for the general public and casting doubt on the reported attendance numbers. singer Sonu Nigam criticized her remarks, suggesting that she could have lost her mental equilibrium and that amitabh bachchan should take her to a doctor.

According to ANI, Jaya told reporters outside parliament House, "Where is the most polluted water at the moment? Because the remains of those killed in the stampede in Kumbh were dumped into the river, the water there has become tainted. Nobody is discussing the actual problems.
 
There are no arrangements made for the general public to visit Kumbh, nor are they given any particular amenities. The claim that crores of people have visited is being misrepresented. How is it possible for so many individuals to congregate in one location at any given time?
 
Sonu re-shared the footage on his X account and captioned it as, 'Jaya Bachchan ji has lost her mental balance. amitabh ji, take her to a good doctor.' Soon after, several other X users chimed in support. A user wrote, 'It has been on its agenda from the very beginning and Bachchan too is a no-nonsense person. Going against this, a case should be filed against him for inciting and misleading people in Kumbh." Another user reacted, '"FIR should be lodged across the country for hurting religious sentiments... Sanatanis across the country should get FIRs registered... do not sit quiet until arrests are made... Sanatan dharma and its beliefs are considered toys..."
