Although digital payments have simplified life, errors can still occur. Your money might end up in someone else's account if you choose the incorrect contact or make a simple error in your UPI ID. Don't worry if you've ever sent money to the incorrect person via google Pay; there are ways to retrieve it. What you should know is as follows.

What to Do If You Sent Money to the Wrong UPI ID
Transaction errors are more frequent than you may imagine. Take quick action if you discover that you have sent funds to the incorrect account. Your options are as follows:

1. Reach Out to the Recipient
Getting in touch with the recipient of the funds is the fastest way to resolve the issue. Asking someone you know to return it is all that is required. Try reaching out to a stranger and kindly apologizing for the error. Some folks could give the money back right away.

2. Contact google pay customer Support

If the recipient is unresponsive or refuses to refund the money, you can call google Pay's customer service at 1800-419-0157. Have the following details ready:

Transaction ID (found in your google pay history)
Date and time of transfer
Amount sent
UPI ID of the recipient
They may be able to help you reverse the transaction, especially if the recipient is unresponsive.

3. File a Complaint with NPCI

If google pay support can't resolve the issue, the next step is to escalate the matter to NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India). NPCI is responsible for managing UPI transactions, and they offer a formal dispute resolution process.

Here's how to file a complaint:

Go to npci.org.in
Click on "What We Do" and select UPI
Look for the Dispute Redressal Mechanism
Fill in details like UPI transaction ID, sender and receiver bank names, and the amount transferred

According to RBI guidelines, wrongly transferred funds should be refunded within 24 to 48 hours. If both accounts are with the same bank, the process is usually faster. If the transfer was between different banks, it may take longer.
