Only one or two of Kollywood's 2024 productions turned out to be unexpected hits, therefore the studio fell short of expectations. According to a study submitted by distributors and theater owners, it was one of the worst years for tamil film overall. The research claims that tamil film makers and financiers suffered a catastrophic loss last year, with 223 films in kollywood turning out to be failures. The projected loss reached 1000 crores.
 
It is also mentioned that although medium-budget films proved to be successful endeavors, kollywood celebrities generated significant losses for the producers and investors. The public had high hopes for Kamal Haasan's indian 2, Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, and Suriya's Kanguva last year, but they were all enormous failures when they were released.
 
Vijay was the sole bright spot among the biggest performers last year, as his film The Greatest Of All Time brought in almost 440 crores globally, with about 220 crores coming from tamil Nadu alone. It appears that the poor box office performance of the prominent actors' films in 2024 was a significant blow to Kollywood's industry. With all of Kollywood's major actors having movies planned for this year, tamil moviegoers, distributors, and financiers are now hoping for a huge return from the stars.
