Foreign minister S. jaishankar, while stating the deportation of indian immigrants from America in the rajya sabha on thursday (February 6), said that the Center will take strict action against human traffickers. Apart from this, he said that the government is in talks with America to ensure that there is no mistreatment of Indians being deported.

The opposition created a ruckus in both houses of parliament on thursday over the issue of the deportation of 104 indians allegedly living without documents in the US. Many opposition members expressed anger over the treatment meted out to indians during deportation.

'Instructions given to officers'

Speaking in the rajya sabha, External Affairs minister Dr. S jaishankar said, "Officials have been instructed to sit with every person (Indian deported from the US) who comes back and find out how they went to the US, who was the agent, and how we can take precautions so that this does not happen again."

He further said, "It is in our collective interest to encourage legal mobility and discourage illegal movement. All countries must repatriate their citizens found to be living abroad illegally. The process of deportation is not new."

'This has happened before'

External Affairs minister Dr. S jaishankar said, "We know that 104 people have returned to india yesterday. We have confirmed their nationality. We should not think that this is a new issue. This is an issue that has happened before as well."

He said, "It is the responsibility of all countries to take back their citizens if they are found living illegally abroad." He further said, "We are in talks with the US government to ensure that there is no mistreatment of the deportees who are returned."
