The trump administration's ongoing crackdown on the federal bureaucracy and numerous of its programs has targeted the united states Agency for international Development (USAID), which vanished from the internet on saturday without explanation.

To combat Soviet influence during the Cold War, President john F. Kennedy established USAID in 1961. As the U.S. government's humanitarian branch, the organization has spent billions of dollars combating starvation, illness, poverty, and natural catastrophes worldwide. It also provides funding for independent media, nonprofit organizations, and social projects that support democracy and development.

The money from this agency was reportedly allocated to groups that were involved in anti-Indian activities, according to many media sources. The Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), purportedly a front for Hafiz Saeed's Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is one such organization. According to media sources, USAID provided financing for this organization. The foundation has been linked to terrorist operations and operates out of Pakistan.

Media sources claim that USAID has been connected to funds from George Soros, an anti-Indian investor. Despite a previous restriction by the U.S. government, reports indicate that the Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), which is linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), the organizations that carried out the 26/11 mumbai attacks, continues to receive funding through USAID.

US President donald trump confirmed the State Department's de facto control of the humanitarian organization by appointing Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim administrator of the US Agency for international Development (USAID) on february 4, 2025. The announcement was made only hours after Elon Musk, the American tech entrepreneur who is in charge of reorganizing the federal government, said that President donald trump had approved the agency's closure, according to news agency ANI. Democrats argue that the president cannot legally close a government agency without first informing Congress.

On Monday, white house Press Secretary Karoline Levitt criticized the united states Agency for international Development (USAID), citing projects such as a transgender opera in Colombia, a DEI musical in Ireland, and USD 1.5 million for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in Serbia, calling them "wasteful spending of American taxpayer dollars." According to CNN, over 60 top USAID employees were placed on leave last week after being accused of attempting to get around the presidential order limiting foreign aid. When no proof of misconduct was found, another senior official was placed on leave for trying to undo that decision.
