21 years, 9 billion dollars and displacement of millions of Palestinians?
After assuming the post of President for the second time in America, donald trump has taken many such decisions which have worried the whole world. Decisions and statements like imposing tariffs on Canada, mexico and china, occupying Panama, Greenland were still being discussed when trump gave a statement which shocked everyone. On february 4, after meeting with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, trump said that America will take over the Gaza Strip and develop it after displacing the Palestinian residents to unknown places.
After this statement of Trump, many countries of the world objected to it. Colombia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, turkey and even China condemned Trump's statement. palestine also came in protest and said that their land is not an independent land that anyone can occupy. The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry issued a press release saying that it is determined to have an independent Palestinian state and will not establish any diplomatic relations with israel without it.
Does donald trump have any concrete plan?
The US has failed to resolve the conflict between israel and Palestinians for decades. There have been many peace proposals, presidents have come and gone but the problems between the two countries have worsened with time. The results of Hamas' attack on israel on 7 october 2023 and the Gaza war that started after that are in front of us all.
Now trump has given a statement about changing the picture of Gaza but has not given any concrete plan for reconstruction. Removing the debris of 92 percent of Gaza's destroyed houses and rebuilding those houses, repairing water and electricity lines, rebuilding schools, hospitals and shops, all this will take a lot of time and it is not possible without any concrete plan. Trump's Middle east envoy Steve Witkoff has said that all this could take years and while this work continues, Palestinians will need to move somewhere else.
