Manipur: Important closed-door meeting of bjp after Biren Singh's resignation, many MLAs including Sambit Patra attended


Manipur News: According to sources, Sambit Patra has met at least three such MLAs. Whose relations with Biren Singh are strained. Many more meetings are likely to be held in the state in the next 48 hours. A day after the resignation of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, state bjp in-charge Sambit Patra on monday held a closed-door meeting with some party MLAs at a hotel. According to party sources, the meeting was held to discuss the election of the next chief minister after the resignation of Biren Singh.


According to sources, Sambit Patra has met at least three such MLAs. Whose relations with Biren Singh are strained. Many more meetings are likely to be held in the state in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the state capital, especially in sensitive areas like Sanjenthong, Singjamei, Moirangkhom, Keisampat and Kangla Gate.

Manipur congress president K. Meghchandra has welcomed Singh's resignation but opposed any move to impose President's rule in the state. "The congress wants a new leader and a new government. We oppose any plan to impose President's rule in the state as the people's mandate must be respected," he said. He also added that Singh should have resigned earlier as his administrative failure has thrown the state into turmoil.




The state's budget session, scheduled to begin on Monday, was canceled on sunday night due to Biren Singh's resignation. The opposition had planned to move a no-confidence motion against the chief minister during the session. Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Kuki-Jow outfit demanded the imposition of the President's rule in the state. He said the President's rule should be imposed in Manipur. The new chief minister will also not be able to bring any change.


Amid the demand for leadership change in the bjp, Biren Singh on sunday submitted his resignation to governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the raj Bhavan. The governor accepted the resignation of Singh and his council of ministers and requested him to continue in office till the appointment of a new Chief Minister. Recently, the supreme court had sought a forensic report of the leaked audio tapes, which allegedly accused Biren Singh of playing a role in ethnic violence. These tapes claimed that Biren Singh allowed Meitei groups to loot weapons during the unrest.


BJP sources believe that Biren Singh's resignation will strengthen the peace restoration efforts of the central government and efforts will be made towards establishing peace between the two major ethnic communities in the state. It is worth noting that since May 2023, more than 250 people have died and thousands have become homeless in the ethnic violence in Manipur.
