In 2012, pooja hegde made her acting debut with Jiiva in the commercially unsuccessful tamil superhero movie Mugamoodi. Pooja's second telugu film, Oka laila Kosam, costarring naga Chaitanya, was released in 2014. Pooja's reputation in tollywood was solidified by the romantic comedy's enormous success. Her biggest telugu blockbusters throughout the years have been maharshi with mahesh babu and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo with Allu Arjun.
 
In 2016, pooja hegde debuted in bollywood alongside hrithik roshan in the historical action drama Mohenjo Drama, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The movie, which cost over Rs 120 crore to make, only made Rs 58 crore in india and was unable to recoup even half of its investment. Pooja's next bollywood film after Mohenjo Daro was the wildly successful housefull 4 in 2019.

Pooja Hegde costarred with prabhas in Radhe Shyam, a historical romance movie, in 2022. One of the worst telugu flops ever, the movie blew up at the box office. In 2023, the actress co-starred with salman khan in the movie office failure Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan. Pooja's other two bollywood productions, Deva, starring shahid Kapoor, and Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh, have both been huge failures.
