According to the Associated Press, Tulsi Gabbard was confirmed by the US Senate on wednesday to serve as President Donald Trump's director of National Intelligence. She is now the first Hindu to hold a leadership position in US Intelligence.

Who Is Tulsi Gabbard?
Gabbard grew up in Hawaii after being born in American Samoa. When she was elected to Hawaii's house of Representatives at the age of 21, she started her political career. Her tour to iraq with the Hawaii army National Guard momentarily disrupted her early career. Abraham Williams, a cinematographer, is Gabbard's spouse. Mike Gabbard, her father, is a state legislator from Hawaii who switched from the Republican to the Democratic Party. Gabbard took the Bhagavad Gita oath, becoming the first Hindu to serve in the US house of Representatives. In addition, she is the first American Samoan to serve in Congress.

Throughout her four terms in Congress, she frequently questioned Democratic party leadership, something she was known for. During the 2016 presidential campaign, she greatly increased her national prominence among progressives by endorsing senator Bernie Sanders.

Gabbard's Race For President
With a progressive agenda and a strong stance against US military actions overseas, Gabbard sought for the Democratic presidential candidacy in 2020. She said that America's involvement in Middle Eastern crises jeopardized national security and destabilized the area. But Gabbard later quit the Democratic party after suspending her candidacy and supporting Joe Biden, accusing it of being controlled by "woke ideologues" and "an elitist cabal of warmongers." Later, she joined the Republican party, started her own podcast, and made frequent appearances on Fox News. When she left, she said, "The Democratic party today is not the same as the party I joined 20 years ago."
