According to data cited by the government, 2 crore devotees took the holy plunge till 6 p.m. on wednesday during the Maghi purnima snan, the fifth major bathing day, which was performed peacefully and incident-free at the Mahakumbh amid a complex crowd control strategy and extra watch.
 
From a helicopter starting at 8 a.m. on wednesday, the mela management showered the devotees taking a bath in the Mahakumbh region with rose petals. During Mahakumbh-2025, it was the second-to-last main bathing day. The massive festival will come to an end on february 26 with the maha shivratri snan. On january 13, the Paush purnima Snan marked the start of the Mahakumbh. makar sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), and Basant Panchami (February 3) were the other three main bathing days.
 
In addition to top authorities tasked with making sure that almost a million Kalpvasis could easily leave the mela area and that devotees could walk freely, the mela administration was alert throughout the day. Since the wee hours of wednesday, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has also closely monitored the events at his official home in the state capital.
 
To keep a careful eye on preparations in Prayagraj for the Magh purnima Snan Parv, Adityanath called a meeting in the war room at his official house in Lucknow, 5 Kalidas Marg.
 
According to a statement of the release, Adityanath, accompanied by DGP prashant Kumar, principal secretary (home) Sanjay Prasad, and representatives of the cm Secretariat, continually checked live updates on tv and gave real-time directions to ensure that the plans were carried out smoothly.
 

The cm had previously conducted a war room meeting starting at 3:30 am during Basant Panchami Amrit Snan and kept a careful eye on the proceedings.
 
On wednesday, amitabh Yash, the additional director general of police (law and order), kept a tight eye on traffic flow in and around Prayagraj throughout the day. The entrance and departure of devotees from the mela area were monitored by a group of senior officials that included four SPs, five ASPs, four IAS, and twenty-five PCS rank officers.
 
At specifically designated pressure spots, DIG (Mahakumbh) Vaibhav krishna and district magistrate Vijay kiran Anand continued to examine the mela procedures.


Rising count of bathers
On wednesday, the number of bathers continued to increase with every hour. According to official data, the mahurat for the bathing had started on tuesday evening itself, and by 4am on wednesday, 48.83 lakh people had taken the holy dip. This number rose to 73.60 lakh by 6am, 1.02 crore by 8am, 1.30 crore by 10am, and finally 1.59 crore at 12noon, 1.83 crore by 2pm, surpassing the 1.94 crore mark by 4pm, and 2 crore by 6pm.
 
The Maghi purnima bathing's mahurat (auspicious time) started at 6:55 p.m. on tuesday and lasted till 7:22 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
As devotees arrived and left the mela area via the one-way route, there were no traffic jams on the Prayagraj city highways.
