New FASTag rules are to come into effect from february 17..!?

FASTag was created to make it easier for passengers to pay tolls and to avoid queues at toll gates and congestion. These save time for passengers and ensure cashless transactions. This makes it easier to pay tolls. To provide more convenient travel to passengers, some announcements related to FASTag are made from time to time. Accordingly, the National Payments Corporation of india has introduced new rules for checking FASTag balance. These rules are expected to come into effect from february 17, 2025. Therefore, vehicle owners should be aware of these new rules to avoid problems while paying at toll booths. Before the introduction of FASTag, the issue of change was seen as a big problem. Because it took time to provide change to passengers after paying the toll. The FASTag introduced for this has become a big relief not only for the passengers but also for the employees at the toll booths.
Key changes in FASTag: According to a circular dated january 28, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of india (NPCI) has said that now FASTag transactions will be verified based on the time the tag is scanned at the toll booth.

60 minutes before scanning: If the FASTag is blacklisted or hotlisted or has a low balance 1 hour before reaching the toll booth, the transaction will be rejected. This means that if there is any problem with your FASTag 1 hour before reaching the toll booth, the transaction will be canceled.

After 10 minutes of scanning: If the FASTag is blacklisted or inactive after 10 minutes of scanning, the transaction will be rejected. Also, if the FASTag meets both these conditions, the transaction will be rejected with "Error Code 176". Also, the vehicle will be charged 2 times the fine.

Generally, FASTags are whitelisted and blacklisted. Whitelisted refers to active FASTags. FASTags can be blacklisted due to reasons such as insufficient balance, incomplete KYC process, pending verification process, discrepancies in vehicle registration details, etc.
