The employee disclosed how his advancement came at the expense of his personal satisfaction in a post that was uploaded on the anonymous professional network Blind. He described several significant family occasions that he was unable to attend due to his professional commitments. A broader conversation on work-life balance and the human costs associated with professional achievement has been sparked by the post's viral success. While some people questioned if such trade-offs are ultimately worthwhile, many others expressed empathy for his predicament.
"My wife asked for divorce"
The man mentioned in his article that he put in a lot of effort to advance for three years. He was essentially working 14 hours a day because his employment required him to attend meetings that began at 7 am and ended at 9 pm.
"I joined three years ago as an inane senior who was always requesting a promotion. My scopes have been expanding and the quantity of work has been piling up ever since I requested. The anonymous user stated in his Blind post, "I eventually got to the point where I coordinated the EU + Asia team by default, so my meetings start at 7 am and end at 9 pm."
He said that because he was in meetings all day, he was unable to attend the birth of his daughter. He didn't have the time to help his wife, who suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth.
"I spent practically the whole day in meetings on the day my daughter was born. I had a meeting issue and didn't accompany my wife to the therapist while she was suffering from postpartum depression. "She requested a divorce," he disclosed.
