PM Shri Composite Vidyalaya Dhamupur is the name of a government school located in the hamlet of Dhamupur. The opposition political party leaders and the martyr's family strongly objected to the school's prior naming in honor of 1965 war hero Veer Abdul Hameed.
The martyr's grandson voiced his displeasure, claiming that the school was named in recognition of his grandfather's ultimate sacrifice for India. He said that the school's name was altered arbitrarily by the administrators, which he described as an insult to the martyr.
According to reports from amar Ujala, Jamil Alam officially complained over the phone to the Basic education Officer (BSA) and asked for prompt action.
However, upon verifying the case, the school's principal contended that Shaheed Veer Abdul Hameed's name was not formally included in school records, according to BSA Ghazipur officer hemant Rao.
Rao promised to personally visit the school and look into the situation. He underlined the importance of showing respect for the martyr by promising to respond appropriately if he found any inconsistencies.
Political reaction over school’s name change
The ruling bharatiya janata party has come under fire from a number of congress figures, notably social activist and lok sabha member Chandrashekhar azad Ravan, who has accused the party of purposefully ignoring Muslim warriors who fought for independence and in military conflicts.
According to the opposition leaders, this move is part of the BJP's ideological strategy to alter historical accounts to support its political thesis.
While taking to an X, congress mp Imran Pratapgarhi wrote, “It is reprehensible that the Ghazipur education department has changed the name of the Paramveer Chakra winner Veer Abdul Hamid School. Today I spoke to Veer Abdul Hamid Sahib’s family on the phone. Earlier, such an attempt has been made by the school’s headmaster. The government is requested to at least save the school where Abdul Hamid studied till the 5th as a memorial of his memories. The school should be renamed Veer Abdul Hamid and the education department should ensure action against those responsible for making such attempts repeatedly”.
Chandrashekhar azad Ravan, mp and leader of the Bhim Army, also called for the school's old name to be reinstated. He declared, "It is not only abhorrent but also an insult to the supreme sacrifice of a great warrior to change the name of the school founded in the name of Param Vir Chakra winner Veer Abdul."
In addition to undermining the heroes' honor, this conduct calls into question our sense of patriotism and appreciation for the valiant troops. He said, "The @UPGovt education Department should immediately issue a public apology for this serious error and restore the school's name, ensuring that the honor of the martyrs is upheld."
Ajay Rai, the president of the Uttar Pradesh congress Committee, criticized the decision, saying it is a disgrace to the nation to change the name of the school that was founded in honor of Veer Abdul Hamid, who gave his life for the nation.
What animosity does this administration have against great men, after all? Following the renaming of Sampurnanand sports Complex a few days ago, the school is currently being operated under the name Veer Abdul Hameed. "Why is this game being played, after all?" he asked.
