FASTag New Rules from Today..!!

From today (February 17), new rules for India's electronic toll collection system FASTags have come into effect. These changes, announced by the National Payments Corporation of india (NPCI), are aimed at simplifying toll payments. Changes have also been made in the withdrawal process, cooling period, and transaction rejection rules. The transaction will be rejected if the FASTag is blacklisted or hotlisted or has a low balance 1 hour before reaching the toll booth. This means that if there is any problem with your FASTag 1 hour before reaching the toll booth, the transaction will be canceled.

Blacklisted FASTags: As per the new rules, if the FASTag is blacklisted upon reaching the toll plaza, the toll will not be processed. Also, if the FASTag is blacklisted at least 10 minutes before scanning, the toll will also be rejected. That is if a FASTag is blacklisted or hotlisted or has a low balance 60 minutes before reaching the toll plaza, the transaction will be rejected.
Grace period: A grace period of 70 minutes has been given to correct their FASTag status before crossing a toll plaza.

Impact of blacklisting: If the FASTag is blacklisted upon reaching the toll plaza, a user will have to pay double the toll. However, if the tag is recharged within 10 minutes of scanning, a one-time penalty refund can be claimed.

Delayed Transactions: Users may face additional charges if toll transactions are processed 15 minutes after the vehicle passes the FASTag barcode. Under the revised rules, banks can increase the charges for incorrect deductions related to blacklisted/low-balance FASTags only after 15 days. If the charge is collected before this cooling period, it will automatically be rejected with a system error code. Users should note that toll charges deducted due to delayed transactions will be rejected only after this waiting period of 15 days.

How to avoid problems with the new FASTag rules: Make sure you have sufficient balance in your FASTag. Check your FASTag status and make sure it is active and not blacklisted. Keep updating your KYC details to prevent your FASTag from being blacklisted. You can easily comply with the new rules by managing your FASTag in advance. You can avoid delays and unnecessary fines.
