Kalvakuntla Chandrashekha Rao was born on february 17, 1954, to Kalvakuntla Raghavarao and Venkatamma in Chintamadaka village of present-day siddipet district. In fact, KCR's ancestors were from Narmala in the Sirsilla district. However, KCR's family, who lost their land due to the construction of a reservoir on the Maneru River there, took compensation and settled in Chintamadaka. kcr completed all his primary education in Dubbak. After that, kcr went to siddipet for high school. He completed his high school education there. He got married to Shobhata in 1969 when he was 14 years old. After marriage, he completed his BA in history, Political Science, and telugu Literature from the government Degree college in Siddipet. kcr had leadership qualities and an interest in politics right from his school days.
While studying as an intern, he joined the youth congress founded by Sanjay Gandhi. kcr was a student leader in his degree. kcr, who contested for the first time as the president of the student union, was defeated. However, that defeat did not diminish KCR's hope of entering politics at all. He rushed forward with redoubled enthusiasm. After completing his degree, he joined madan Mohan as a disciple. The friendship formed with madan Mohan started KCR's interest in Telangana. kcr campaigned on behalf of madan Mohan in the anti-alcohol elections in 1978. At that time, people were attracted to his speeches on a large scale. After the death of Sanjay gandhi in 1980, kcr did not know what to do.
KCR, who was in the congress for about 13 years, joined the party in 1983 when ntr formed the TDP. Seeing the leadership qualities in kcr, ntr gave him the opportunity to contest as an mla from siddipet for the first time in 1983. However, kcr had to contest against his mentor madan Mohan. He lost to madan Mohan by a margin of just 877 votes in this election. He won as an mla for the first time from siddipet constituency in 1985. He defeated congress candidate T. Mahender Reddy. After that, he served as the State Assistance minister between 1987-88. He served as the minister of drought Control between 1988-89.

TRS contested the 2004 assembly elections along with congress, CPI, and CPM. tdp was defeated in this election. During this time, kcr and Narendra, who won as MPs, served as Union Ministers in the UPA government. ysr gave ministerial berths to Captain Kanta Rao, Harish Rao, and Nayini narasimha Reddy in the state. However, in 2006, kcr, who did not like the congress policies, left the UPA and resigned from the post of MP. It is noteworthy that he contested again from karimnagar and won.
On november 29, 2009, he prepared for a fast unto death in siddipet with the slogan 'KCR dies or telangana will come'. In this sequence, kcr, who was coming to siddipet from karimnagar, was arrested by the police and taken to khammam jail. kcr made it clear that he would continue his fast despite being arrested. With KCR's health deteriorating, Osmania students also intensified the telangana movement, and the successful general strike, on december 9, 2009, the then Union home minister chidambaram announced the start of the telangana formation process.
With this, kcr called off the fast. After that, the telangana formation process, which had been stalled for a few days due to pressure from seemandhra leaders and the Samaikyandhra movement, gained momentum in 2014. On february 18, 2014, the telangana Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. The bill was also passed in the rajya sabha on february 20. The President gave his assent on march 1. With this, the state of telangana was officially formed on june 2, 2014. kcr left an indelible mark in history by being appointed as the first chief minister of telangana, which achieved victory by a landslide. In the 2014 elections, trs won 63 seats. It is noteworthy that kcr was sworn in as the chief minister on the day when telangana state was officially declared. In 2018, kcr, who went to the polls six months early, won again. This time, the number of seats increased even more. trs won 88 seats and roared with victory.
During KCR's nine-and-a-half years in power, he brought reforms like Mission Bhagiratha, Rythu Bandhu, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, Haritha Haram, TSISAP, Asara Scheme, and Rythubeema. kcr could not become the chief minister for the third time. KCR's hopes of changing the party's name to BRS and entering national politics did not come true. In the telangana assembly elections held in december 2023, BRS was limited to only 39 seats. congress won 64 seats and won.
