This is good news for coffee farmers. But shocking news for coffee lovers. From next month, the price of coffee powder is expected to increase by Rs 200 per kg, to Rs 800-850 per kg. It is also said that the price of some types of coffee powder may increase by Rs 1,000-1,100. Thus, with the increase in milk prices, the price of a cup of coffee may increase by up to Rs 5. In coffee plantation areas including Chikmagalur, the Arabica coffee harvest has declined significantly. Robusta production has also declined, leading to an increase in overall coffee prices.
As a result, companies selling roasted coffee powder have announced a price hike of Rs 100 per kg by the end of February. Another Rs 100 price hike is expected by the end of March. The coffee Roasters Association of india and the coffee Board have confirmed that a hike in the price of roasted coffee powder is inevitable. This is the second price hike in the current financial year. According to the coffee Board, fluctuations in the international coffee market are also a reason for the price hike. As a result, concerns are growing about the rise in coffee prices. However, the exact amount and timeframe for the price hike are yet to be decided. P.C. Rao of the Bangalore Hotel Owners Association says that if there is a price hike, it will be temporary.
