A 15-year-old Muslim girl called Aliya Begum tragically died from her wounds on february 11 after valiantly attempting to save her father from a mob attack in the Antharam hamlet of Zaheerabad, Telangana.
When Mohammad Ismail, the girl's father, was seen urinating close to Veera and Vijay Reddy's residences, he was assaulted by a gang of at least forty men. Aliya saw her father being attacked and hurried to save him, only to be hit by stones.
She battled her wounds for three days but was unable to survive; on february 15, she died.
The whole town is in shock at the horrific event, and many are calling for harsher and quicker punishment for the culprits.
MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, who paid a visit to the grieving family, claimed that the whole Muslim community was targeted in this vicious assault, not only Aliya and her father.
According to Majlis Bachao Tehreek member Amjadullah Khan, "We need a judicial inquiry by a high court judge, all accused should be arrested, and 25 lakh should be given to the family as compensation with a government job and a home under the Indiramma Housing Scheme."
After meeting with the sangareddy police superintendent, members of the All india Milli Council, including Adv. Afsar Jahan, Adv. Sujaath, and others, police have filed a complaint against the reddy brothers and other people. In order to prevent the accused from being freed on bond, the legal team has also met with Public Prosecutor Lateef ur Rahman.
