Mohammed Siraj, a right-arm fast pacer from India, posted a photo of his recent holy trip to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to conduct Umrah. The Hyderabadi bowler shared a heartwarming picture of himself in front of the Kaaba while wearing a traditional Ihram on social media.

"Alhamdulillah" (glory be to God) is the caption he wrote when he uploaded the picture.

But despite the supporters and well-wishers who showered him with affection, a troubling flood of hatred and group trolling surfaced beneath his post.

Trolls of Hindutva target Siraj

With 1.8 million people like and commenting on Mohammed Siraj's photo, it immediately attracted a lot of attention.

However, he also experienced hate speech and online abuse from right-wing accounts that used communally charged remarks and terms like "Mullha" and "Katmullha" (circumcised), labeling him a "superstitious practitioner."

Some right-wing trolls also expressed their opposition to his religious trip by commenting “Jai Shri Ram” which means glory to Lord Ram, traditionally a symbol of devotion and faith in the Hindu religion.

Mohammed Siraj is currently dealing with obstacles and failures in his cricket career, which coincides with his spiritual retreat. Many were shocked when the 30-year-old was left out of India's 15-man roster for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. In addition, he was released by royal challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prior to the 2025 indian Premier League.
