Former RBI governor Shaktikanta Das gets big responsibility!

He has been appointed as prime minister Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary-2. The Appointments Committee of the cabinet (ACC) said that he will remain in this post till further orders. Shaktikanta Das retired in december 2024 after serving as RBI governor for 6 years. PK Mishra has been the Principal Secretary to prime minister Narendra Modi since 11 september 2019.

What responsibility will Shaktikanta Das take over

This appointment comes at a time when the government of india is focusing on strengthening its economic policies and financial administration. Apart from RBI governor, Shaktikanta Das has held important positions in the central and state governments in the fields of finance, taxation, industry, infrastructure etc. As Principal Secretary-2, Shaktikanta Das will play an important role in providing strategic advice on key economic and financial matters, which will further strengthen the decision-making framework of the government.

Was RBI governor for 6 years

Shaktikanta Das served as RBI governor from 2018 to 2023. He played an important role in steering india through significant financial challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the country's economic recovery thereafter. In the year 2021, the central government gave Shaktikanta Das a three-year extension. He was the 25th governor of the Reserve bank of India.

Has served in the Central-State Government

Shaktikanta Das hails from Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. He is a 1980 batch indian Administrative service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. During his career, he worked in various positions for the Central and tamil Nadu governments. At the Centre, he served as Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary and Fertilizer Secretary at various stages.
