A city-based businessman named sunil Malhotra stated at a press conference here on sunday that he had spent over Rs 4 crore on his daughter Palak Malhotra's wedding and had given his son-in-law a Mercedes car, but that his daughter had been cruelly treated and harassed by her husband and in-laws.

After months of investigation, Malhotra said, a case was filed against the suspects, who were identified as piyush Kapoor (husband), pankaj kapoor (father-in-law), and archana Kapoor (mother-in-law), who lived in Sukhmani Enclave, Barewal, and owned PN Kapoor Hospital. His daughter, Palak Malhotra, had filed a complaint with the ludhiana police in november of last year.  Palak Malhotra filed a complaint under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with cruelty committed by a husband or his family members against a married lady, and Section 316(2), which deals with criminal breach of trust.

"I got married to piyush Kapoor on July 11, 2024, and my family made significant contributions in the form of gifts, dowry, and wedding arrangements," the complaint stated.  My father also gave my husband a Mercedes automobile at my in-laws' request.  My marriage cost my father almost Rs 4 crore in total.  My husband and in-laws, however, were still not happy and continued to insist on more.

She said that after being married, her husband and in-laws mistreated and harassed her.  Her father took her home in october of last year because of her increasing agony.

Her father had been pleading with her husband and in-laws to stop harassing her, but they refused to change their ways.  She and her family suffered greatly as a result of their ongoing abuse, dowry demands, and threats.  The complaint claimed that the victim's jewelry and other valuables were also removed from her by force.

"A cop near suspects could impede the investigation."

Her father said that even though a case had been registered, the police had not yet taken the suspects into custody.  Sunil expressed fear that a top police officer who is connected to the suspects' family may influence the inquiry, even though he praised Commissioner of police Kuldeep chahal for his participation in filing a formal complaint against the accused.
