The audience is very excited about Dabba Cartel, an upcoming series on Netflix.  The eagerly anticipated series' trailer was unveiled, and it looks fantastic.  A group of middle-class women talking about their dabba service starts the trailer.  But beneath the surface of their everyday operations, something hazardous is taking place.  They produce two varieties of tiffins: one that contains regular food and another that contains drugs.

As they become involved in a lethal pharmaceutical scam, their operation quickly takes a negative turn.  The trailer gives a glimpse into the chaos and problems that enter their lives. At the end of the trailer, Jyotika’s character says, “Toh yeh hai tumhara Narcos Thane? (So this is your Narcos Thane?),” making a clever reference to the famous drug-themed Netflix series Narcos and Narcos: Mexico.

With a strong cast, gripping screenplay, and powerful background music, Dabba Cartel has all the ingredients for a hit.  Will the OTT audience, however, find it appealing?  A similar show, Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo, released on Hotstar in 2023, also centred around women running a drug cartel, in a much different setting.  Although it was well received by viewers, the lack of word-of-mouth buzz prevented it from reaching a larger audience.

Will Dabba Cartel experience the same outcome?  The program has an advantage in reaching a wider audience because it was launched on Netflix, but whether or not viewers find it enjoyable enough to recommend it to others will determine its success.  As the release date approaches, all eyes are on whether Dabba Cartel will live up to the hype.
