The Dropbox method was designed to be a simple and stress-free solution for all H1B applicants to get their visa stamped; there would be no interviews or long wait times.  However, a recent modification has left many candidates with more doubts than answers since they are now receiving surprise rejections.  Timeliness is the main issue.  After being rejected, how long does it take to get your passport back?  Some claim to have had it back in a matter of days, while others have been waiting weeks for word.

Additionally, some applicants receive the 221(g) form with their returned passport, which indicates that additional processing is necessary for their case.  However, how does that affect their travel schedule?  That is still up in the air.  What follows a rejection?  Are candidates required to make a fresh in-person appointment?  If so, is chennai their sole choice, or may they visit any U.S. consulate?  There are currently no definitive solutions, and many people are attempting to determine what to do next.  Many people are now in a state of anxiety after booking trips in the hopes of receiving their money quickly.

People are turning to one another for information in the absence of official updates.  As of february 13, the case status of one applicant, who had a Dropbox appointment on february 10, still says "Application Received."  Just silence—neither acceptance nor rejection.  Those whose families and occupations depend on them will find this lack of communication very annoying.  The actual problem?  A great deal of ambiguity exists.  Refusals seem to have increased since the regulation change, but neither the reasons nor the following actions are transparent.  Better communication is necessary if this is the new reality so that people may make plans for their life.

Everyone is currently waiting to see what happens.  Keep your fingers crossed for a successful conclusion and be ready for delays if you're applying for an H1B visa through Dropbox.
