In the United States, illegal immigration is still a controversial issue.  Many leftists, especially on social media, fervently support the rights of illegal immigrants, while conservatives call for more border enforcement.  Given that illegal immigration tends to lower wages, this support may appear counterintuitive.  Large businesses and billionaires are the main winners, while Americans in the working class face lower wages and more competition.

From a humanitarian perspective, many on the left contend that undocumented immigrants should be protected, even if doing so negatively impacts native labor.  The discussion is also heavily influenced by political forces.  The Democratic Party's pro-immigration stance frequently turns the discussion from the economic effects to a conflict with conservative ideas.

In the end, the wealthiest profit while both legal immigrants and American labor have difficulties.  Uncontrolled illegal immigration undermines reasonable pay norms by continuously bringing in cheap labor.  Supporting just immigration laws does not imply ignoring their effects on the economy.  The interests of both workers and legal immigrants may be protected by a comprehensive approach that includes improved border security and legal immigration paths.

Although there is still much to be discussed, it is clear that legislation should put workers' wellbeing ahead of corporate profits or political ambitions.
