Family Of maharashtra Student, Battling For Life After accident In US, Gets Visa Appointment
Neelam Shinde's uncle Sanjay Kadam said on thursday that the family has got an appointment for a US visa at 9 am on friday in Mumbai.
The family of a student from maharashtra, who is in a coma after a road accident in the US, said they got an appointment for an emergency.
35-year-old Neelam Shinde is fighting for her life at a california hospital after a road accident earlier this month in the US. Shinde, a student of california State University, was critically injured when a four-wheeler allegedly hit her on february 14.
She remains in a comatose state in the ICU, while her family in india has been desperately seeking a visa to be by her side.
Neelam's father Tanaji Shinde said he found out about the accident on february 16 and has been trying to get a visa ever since with little success.
Though the family applied for a visa 48 hours after the accident, the application was pending since. The family said that the earliest slot was available for next year. When the family visited the US Consulate with a request for an urgent visa, they couldn't succeed in getting an appointment.
However, after many appeals, Neelam's uncle Sanjay Kadam said that the family has got an appointment for a US visa at 9 am on friday in Mumbai.
"Our struggle to rush to be with Neelam has been going on for the last 10 days. After the help from various quarters, we received a phone call and email about an appointment for a visa at the US Consulate in mumbai on friday morning," Kadam told The indian Express.
The development comes after the Ministry of External Affairs had taken up with the US a request for an urgent visa for the family, sources told news agency PTI.
"The MEA has taken up the matter with the US. The US side is looking into the formalities for early grant of visa for the applicant's family," PTI quoted the sources as saying.
Nationalist congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule flagged the case on Wednesday.
"Student Neelam Shinde has met with an accident in the USA and is hospitalized in a local hospital, she said in a post on X.Her father, Tanaji Shinde, from Satara, maharashtra, india, urgently needs to visit his daughter due to a medical emergency. Tanaji Shinde has applied for an urgent visa to the USA and requires assistance," Sule had said.
