According to government data, there has been a significant increase in swine flu (H1N1) cases in India, with 20,414 illnesses and 347 fatalities recorded as of december 2024. With 3,141 cases reported in delhi alone, the nation's capital, the disease is still spreading.
 
Seasonal influenza A (H1N1) cases have increased in several additional states, including:

Kerala: 2,846 cases
Maharashtra: 2,027 cases
Gujarat: 1,711 cases
Tamil Nadu: 1,777 cases
Rajasthan: 1,149 cases

Influenza Cases See a Seasonal Surge

Physicians across have seen a sharp increase in the number of patients suffering from influenza-like illness (ILI), which manifests as cold, cough, and viral fever.
 
 States and Union Territories have been reporting the epidemic regularly to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi's Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
 
According to an official source, the government is keeping a careful eye on the issue and using its surveillance system to follow the illness trend.

The worst-affected states in terms of fatalities include:

Maharashtra: 71 deaths
Kerala: 61 deaths
Gujarat: 55 deaths
Punjab: 48 deaths
Chhattisgarh: 43 deaths
Haryana: 26 deaths

Doctors Warn of Rising Cases Amid Seasonal Flu Trends
The head of Fortis Hospital's respiratory department, Dr. Vikas Maurya, emphasized the continuous increase in influenza cases throughout the previous month. Although hospital admissions are still manageable and do not require breathing assistance, he pointed out that many patients who attend the OPD are suffering from viral fever and respiratory discomfort.
 
The seasonal flu trends in India, which usually peak between january and march and again between august and October, are consistent with the transmission of influenza A (H1N1) and its subtype H3N2.
