Earlier this week, the indian central government approved a significant change to the country's passport regulations. For passport applicants born on or after october 1, 2023, birth certificates from the relevant authorities will be the only evidence of date of birth under the new passport regulations.

Officials said that during this week, authorities issued an official letter to implement the 1980 Passport Rules change.

According to the officials, the new regulation will take effect upon the amendment's publication in the official Gazette.

The indian government has changed several passport regulations in recent years. You should be aware of the following five significant changes to passport regulations:

Birth certificate rules
Birth certificates issued by the Municipal Corporation, the Registrar of Births and Deaths, or any other authority authorized under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, will be accepted as proof of date of birth for individuals born on or after october 1, 2023, following the new passport regulations that were announced earlier this week.

Passport rules for those born before october 1, 2023
However, those born before october 1, 2023, are exempt from the new regulations.  These individuals may present their birth certificate, transfer, school leaving, or matriculation certificate from an accredited educational institution or their most recent school, or their Permanent Account Number Card, which bears their birthdate and is issued by the Income Tax Department. Other papers, such as a copy of the applicant's driving license or an excerpt from their military record, may also be submitted.

Details about the residence
New indian passport regulations do not print the applicant's residence address on the last page of the passport to preserve their privacy. Immigration officers must scan a barcode to obtain your residence information.

Color-coding
For a few people, the government has also issued new passports with color coding.  Under the new passport regulations, government officials obtain white passports, diplomats receive red passports, and individuals receive blue passports.

Names of parents
Additionally, according to new passport regulations, the final page of the document cannot have your parents' names.  The purpose of this regulation is to help children of divorced or separated parents.
