The applicants hope to receive a status update in a few days after submitting a passport for H1B visa stamping at the hyderabad Dropbox.  On the CEAC website, however, the statement "Your search did not return any data" appears.  There is only quiet, no status, no timetable.

Numerous H1B candidates are impacted by the problem.  Although the U.S. Consulate has their passports, nothing has changed. Dropbox processing normally takes a week or so, however lately, some cases have been stalled for weeks with no progress.  After 10 to 14 days, some applicants have complained of abrupt status changes, while others have been left waiting for more than a month without receiving an explanation.  A backlog at the consulate or even a bug in the CEAC system could be the cause of the delays.  In any case, the uncertainty is growing.

"Your case is under processing" is a common answer when attempting to get in touch with the consulate.  There is no other information given.  For those who have upcoming travel arrangements, this circumstance causes needless anxiety.  Work schedules, family obligations, and flight reservations are all on the line.  Even while some situations could end on their own, the uncertainty is nonetheless annoying.  There is an urgent need for a more effective application tracking system.

It appears that the only option is to wait at least two weeks before escalating.  The next step is to contact the consulate or USTravelDocs if you don't hear back.  However, the more important point still stands: why can't embassies offer a basic online status report if they can pick up passports in a single day?
