With five of the top ten whiskies in the world coming from india, indian whisky brands are becoming well-known worldwide. The fact that no Chinese company has reached the top 10 is an incredible accomplishment.  Additionally, eight indian whisky brands have made it into the top 20, underscoring the country's increasing hegemony in the world alcohol market.

Did you know that an indian company makes the best-selling whisky in the world?  The top four spots on the global sales chart are held by indian whiskies.  Five indian brands are among the top ten, while eight are among the top twenty.  India is a significant whisky market, and customers there are becoming more interested in high-end brands.
 
International liquor businesses interested in growing their business in india have taken notice of this.  Tariff reductions on American bourbon whiskey imports were recently announced by the indian government.  In order to access India's sizable market, nations like the UK and australia are also advocating for lower import taxes on alcoholic beverages.


Indian Brands Lead the Global Chart

According to The Spirits Business: Brand Champions 2024, the top four spots in the list of best-selling whiskies of 2023 are held by indian brands:

McDowell's Sold 31.4 million cases (1 case = 9 liters). It is owned by United Spirits Limited (USL), a subsidiary of the british multinational beverage company Diageo.

Royal Stag Sold 27.9 million cases.

Officer's Choice Sold 23.4 million cases.

Imperial Blue Sold 22.8 million cases.

Other Global Brands in the Top 20

Scotland's iconic Johnnie Walker is in fifth place with 22.1 million cases sold in 2023. It is followed by:

Jim Beam (USA) 17 million cases

Suntory Kakubin (Japan) 15.8 million cases

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey (USA) 14.3 million cases

8 PM (India) 12.2 million cases

Jameson's (Ireland) 10.2 million cases, securing the 10th spot.


Indian Brands in the Top 20

Beyond the top 10, indian brands continue to shine:

Blender's Pride Sold 9.6 million cases, ranked 11th.

Royal Challenge Sold 8.6 million cases, ranked 12th.

Sterling Reserve Premium Whiskies Sold 5.1 million cases, ranked 16th.
