Second only to shankar in this regard, A.R. murugadoss has long been recognized as one of the few tamil filmmakers who can successfully combine powerful social concerns with mainstream appeal.  Even though he has also experimented with strictly mainstream films, ghajini is still his career-defining movie, exhibiting his distinctive storytelling technique.

His breakthrough catapulted him into the big leagues, resulting in a series of films, including Thuppakki and Kaththi with Vijay, ghajini with Aamir Khan, 7aum Arivu with Suriya, and stalin with Chiranjeevi.  However, Spyder, starring Mahesh Babu, was a box office bust and caused a decline in his career trajectory.

With Sarkar, he made a partial comeback, though it didn't live up to his prior successes.  Rajinikanth's darbar was yet another colossal failure.  Murugadoss keeps landing big projects in spite of these setbacks, such as Madharasi with Sivakarthikeyan and Sikandar with salman Khan.  His resurgence depends on these movies, but the initial indications are not encouraging.

Feedback on Sikandar's recently released teaser has been overwhelmingly negative.  Fans struggle to identify Murugadoss' creative influence on the movie and say it lacks his signature style.  It's unclear if Sikandar will be able to overcome this early criticism and succeed at the box office with an EID release.  Fans of Sivakarthikeyan are also nervous at the moment.  Expectations for Madharasi are quite high following the release of the huge 300-crore movie Amaran.  They've gone into panic mode based on what AR murugadoss said in the Sikandar trailer.

This might become a dangerous endeavor for the celebrity if murugadoss doesn't regain his form.  Murugadoss needs to demonstrate that he still has what it takes to produce a strong hit since the stakes are enormous.  One thing is certain, though: Madharasi's teaser is far superior to Sikandar's.  This only serves to highlight Murugadoss's inability to work his magic in Bollywood, primarily due to salman Khan's sluggish performance and Sivakarthikeyan's fervor and commitment.  The Madharasi teaser blatantly displays the disparity in their methods.  Fans shouldn't be alarmed by Sikandar's subpar teaser, then.  Madharasi still has potential, and if murugadoss is lucky, this might be the movie that saves him.
