A Muslim preacher attacked star indian cricketer mohammed shami for drinking water and juice during the team's match against australia in the ICC Champions Trophy semifinals. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, president of All india Muslim Jamaat, described Shami's behavior as a "crime under Shariat" and stated that shami "will have to answer to God."

"During a match, mohammed shami, a well-known cricket figure in india, drank water or another beverage. people were observing him. He is in good health if he is playing. He even had water in such a state and did not observe 'Roza'. people get the incorrect impression from this. He's broken the law by not retaining 'Roza'. This is not what he should do. He is a criminal in Shariat's view. According to news agency ANI, he stated, "He will have to answer God."

The Maulana said that 'Roza' (fasting) is considered a compulsory duty and any healthy man or woman not observing 'Roza' will be seen as a "big criminal".

Shami is not the first cricket player from india to face criticism at the Champions Trophy.  Congress national spokesman Shama Mohammed had called skipper rohit sharma "too fat for a sportsman" and "the most unimpressive captain india ever had" during the match against New Zealand.

"What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors like Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni, Kohli, Kapil dev, Shastri & the rest? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the Captain of india," she had said in her now-deleted posts on X.
