Karthik Subbaraj's highly awaited film Retro, which is scheduled to open in telugu states on May 1, is being prepared for release by tamil actor Suriya.  The filmmakers have started sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes photos from the film's production as its marketing efforts pick up steam.

One particularly memorable event was Suriya's time spent filming on a painstakingly constructed chennai prison set.  Since a large amount of vintage takes place in a prison, the production crew built a lavish jail set in the vintage era.  The players were given an immersive experience on this set, which included a kitchen, a library, a visitors' area, jail cells, and a warden's office.

Suriya recounted his experience, saying that the five days of filming within the set seemed very authentic.  "I had the impression that I was actually residing in a jail for five days.  I felt every feeling and every moment, and I even danced it out," he remarked.  In this setting, the team recorded the song Kannadi Poove and dramatic action scenes.  Suriya expressed special surprise at the place's change, saying, "I've been coming here for years.  How did you get the prison from madurai here?  Fantastic, Karthi.

Retro is karthik Subbaraj and Suriya's first joint project.  With a strong supporting cast that includes Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj, the film's female protagonist is pooja Hegde.  In addition, a dance performance will feature a surprise cameo appearance by Shriya Saran.  With cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, editing by Mohammed Shafique Ali, and music by Santhosh Narayanan, Retro is hailed as an action-packed love tale.  Jacki and Mayapandi are the art directors, and Stone Bench Films and 2D Entertainment are the producers.
