Later, in 1910, at the international Conference of women held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, German socialist leader Clara Zetkin decided to celebrate Women's Day internationally. This decision was welcomed in many countries.

In 1917, a routine protest by women in russia turned into a major movement and took place in the last week of February. Since the Julian calendar was in effect in russia at that time, that day was recognized as march 8. In 1975, the United Nations (UN) officially declared this date as Women's Day.
