
BSF: Smuggling attempt foiled on India-Bangladesh border; one person dead, BSF jawan injured

The Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled a smuggling attempt on the India-Bangladesh border in Siliguri, West Bengal. An unidentified person died in this incident while a BSF jawan was injured. This incident took place near Khalpara village in darjeeling district in the early hours of Friday.
Giving information about the case, the spokesperson of the Border Security Force (BSF) said that a group of 15-20 Bangladeshi miscreants had illegally crossed the international border and entered deep inside the indian territory. Some indian miscreants also joined these people to smuggle cattle and banned goods. When the indian Border Security Force jawans spotted this gang, they asked them to surrender. Ignoring the warnings of the soldiers, the miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons like sickles and sticks. Along with this, the criminals also threw stones at the soldiers.
BSF soldiers used non-lethal ammunition to drive away the attackers but the attackers did not calm down. Some attackers also tried to snatch the weapon from a soldier. The army spokesperson said that seeing his life in danger, the soldier fired a shot from his rifle. Seeing the bullet, the miscreants fled from the spot. In this entire incident, the BSF jawan was seriously injured. Along with this, the body of an unknown person has been recovered from the spot.
The BSF spokesperson, while stating this matter related to smuggling, said that Bangladeshi smugglers had broken the fence on the border to carry out the incident. The BSF has seized the two cattle which were brought for smuggling. It has not been confirmed yet which country the person killed in the incident belonged to. Efforts are being made to identify him based on the body.
