In Saudi Arabia, work on the jeddah Tower has resumed.  This mega-tall skyscraper, also called the Burj jeddah, is presently being built in the port city of jeddah and is more than 600 meters high.

It will be the tallest structure in the world when it is finished.

The skyscraper is expected to be at least 1,001 meters tall, making it the first one-kilometer-tall structure in history. It is significant to note that the tower's exact height has not yet been disclosed.  At 3,281 feet (1,001 meters), it will be considered a mega-tall skyscraper. There are now just three of them in the world, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the highest structure in the world at 830 meters.

The design's mastermind is architect Adrian Smith.  While employed at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the architect who now leads the skyscraper specialized firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture in Chicago served as the principal architect on the Burj Khalifa.

It is being planned as the center of jeddah Economic City, a 5.3-million-square-meter development located 20 kilometers north of jeddah on the red Sea coast.

Known as the king Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), this USD 20 billion project was masterplanned by HOK Architects for Kingdom Holding Company and will include a variety of residential and commercial structures.

The building will have a Four Seasons hotel, offices, apartments, and an observation deck.  The elevator system, which will include 56 elevators with top speeds of 12 meters per second, will be one of its most notable features.  Three lobbies will also make it easy to move between elevators that service various tower parts.
