Following the success of Meiyazhagan, director C. prem Kumar has already begun writing the script for the follow-up to his beloved film 96. Vels Film international is reportedly in charge of producing this film, and production is anticipated to start shortly. 2018 saw the release of 96, which was a massive hit with vijay sethupathi and trisha in the lead roles and directed by C. prem Kumar. It is still hailed as one of Kollywood's best romance films by tamil filmgoers.
 
Tamil moviegoers have been expressing on social media that cult classics like 96 shouldn't have a sequel and that C. prem Kumar should abandon the notion of directing one after rumors of the sequel's pre-production work arose.  Kollywood's Part 2 and sequel films haven't done well thus far, and viewers feel that the sequels are destroying their appreciation for the original films.  On the other hand, C. prem Kumar has already begun pre-production on the 96 sequel.
