For any filmmaker, adapting the Mahabharata into a movie is an enormous task.  It's a difficult task because of the time, money, and intricate setups needed.  The complexity is increased by elaborate clothes, large sets, expensive visual effects, and the salaries of top actors.  Although low-budget television adaptations of the Mahabharata have been available to indian viewers, it is difficult to bring the complete epic to the big screen.

Unexpectedly, filmmaker Lingusamy has recently revealed a Mahabharata-based movie.  This declaration has been unexpected given his recent run of mishaps and declining popularity.  The renowned director S.S. rajamouli has been expressing interest in a Mahabharata-based project for years, but he hasn't moved forward with it yet.  Similar to this, Aamir Khan's Mahabharata project, which had a huge budget of 1000 crores, was ultimately shelved.

Lingusamy has now formally announced that he will produce a 700 crore rupee Mahabharata movie.  Using cutting-edge technology, the project will be created in two stages.  Since a lot of pre-production is needed, filming won't start right away.  Even with a mid-range hero like ram pothineni in The Warriorr, Lingusamy has been ineffective for years.  Announcement of a Mahabharata adaptation now seems like a joke.

If done improperly, it can harm the epic's reputation and deter future filmmakers from trying a worthy adaptation.  I hope this doesn't become a poor film that prevents a real Mahabharata from being shown on the big screen.
