Wheesung debuted in 2002 with the R&B album 'Like a Movie' and has built a successful career combining genres such as R&B, pop, and hip-hop. However, in 2021, his career took a setback when he was convicted of using the powerful anesthetic propofol without a doctor's prescription.He was sentenced to one year in prison, and suspended for two years. According to The hollywood Reporter, Wheesung's mother found his body at his apartment in Seoul's northern Gwangjin-gu district at 6:29 p.m. on Monday.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene, but Wheesung was pronounced dead. The singer was scheduled to meet his manager that day, but he did not show up and could not be reached. His mother, who lives in the same apartment building, went to check on him and found him motionless. The police subsequently recovered his body. An intensive investigation is underway.
