One of the top multiplex chains in India, PVR Inox, is once again the target of popular indignation. This time for reportedly billing ticket counter patrons excessive prices. The corporation is currently being investigated for misleading pricing practices in lucknow, just weeks after being fined by a consumer court in Bengaluru for playing advertisements for up to 25 minutes.

A citizen of lucknow made a video showing how the PVR Inox property in Hazratganj was charging ticket prices that were far more than those seen on online booking sites.  According to the woman, four tickets for Chhaava cost ₹640 on the well-known ticket purchasing website BookMyShow (₹758 with convenience fees).  She made the decision to buy the tickets at the counter in order to avoid paying the booking charge.

She was startled to learn, though, that the counter price for a single ticket was an incredible ₹259.50, making the total cost of four tickets ₹1,038.  She was informed that GST and other fees were included in the extra charges when she contacted the staff.  A combo snack offer that had been surreptitiously added to the sum was withdrawn by the personnel after more dispute.  Still, the total came to ₹938, which was much higher than the price listed online.  She wasn't charged ₹160 per ticket till the matter was escalated.

According to insiders, this behavior is widespread, especially in the Northern belt, where employees feel under pressure to sell combo snack bargains to unwary patrons.  Discussions about multiplex pricing transparency have been rekindled by the lucknow tragedy.  In addition to taking advantage of consumers, such dishonest tactics erode public confidence in multiplex chains like PVR Inox.
