With their new paperwork, USCIS has put Green Card applicants in a state of confusion.  Overnight, without prior notice, and with no grace period, they made changes to the mandatory Form I-485.  Since anyone who submitted their application even a day before to the change is out of luck, people are in a panic.  The previous form will be rejected if it is received after the update, wasting time, money, and effort on paperwork, medical tests, and images.

Now, applicants will need to wait for their applications to be rejected, go over everything again, and submit them again.  For those who are already struggling, this means further delays and worry.  One applicant, however, asserted that they submitted their forms right before the update and that they did receive reception messages, indicating that their submission was approved.  Is this another indication of uncertainty at the USCIS, or is it a reassuring?  Nobody is able to tell.

This disorganized rollout demonstrates how USCIS gives applicants no thought.  For immigrants, it's just another bureaucratic nightmare with little notice or time for adjustment.  Before shipping anything, make sure you have the most recent USCIS forms if you are applying for a Green Card.  If not, you could wind up in this mess losing time and money.
