Fans believe that Jyotika is abandoning the profession she came from as she broadens her reach in india today.  She discussed her experiences in the South indian entertainment industry in an interview, which is when all of this occurred.  She revealed that women typically only get to play supporting parts or dance numbers while the male characters receive most of the attention.  She believes that women are not being fairly represented in the storytelling there.

She disclosed that she chose to avoid a variety of roles after having children at the age of 28.  She made a conscious effort to play parts that she believed best suited her.  Fans are furious because they believe that by stating this, she is disparaging South indian cinema. Many questioned why a producer would trust a star if they couldn't pack the theaters.

Many suggested that her spouse Suriya, a well-known figure in his own right, teach her the fundamentals of the film industry.  They also said that Suriya might have made a mistake by getting married to a North indian woman.  Jyothika has previously pursued female-led films, but the reception has been unfavorable.  Although bollywood can be extremely sexist and strong female leads have developed in South indian movies, some fans believed she was attempting to please bollywood viewers.
