Earthquake In Kargil: Earthquakes occurred in different parts of india at different times this morning. Tremors of the earthquake were felt in Ladakh Jammu and Kashmir at 2.50 am and in Arunachal Pradesh at 6 am.

Tremors of earthquake were felt in the far northern part of india early in the morning on Holi. An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude occurred in Kargil, Ladakh. These tremors were felt at 2.50 am. Along with Kargil, these tremors were also felt in the entire Ladakh and some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.


According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 15 kilometers. Just three hours after this earthquake, tremors were felt in Northeast india as well. An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude was measured in the West Kameng area of Arunachal Pradesh. Tremors of the earthquake were felt here at 6 am. On march 13, at 2 pm, tibet also experienced an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude.


Earthquakes keep happening in Leh and Ladakh

Both Leh and Ladakh fall in seismic zone IV, which means that these are very high-risk areas in terms of earthquakes. Being located in the tectonically active Himalayan region, earthquakes keep happening frequently in Leh and Ladakh.


Earthquake-sensitive areas in the country are identified based on scientific inputs related to past earthquakes and the tectonic structure of the region. Based on these inputs, the country has been divided into four seismic zones. Zone V, IV, III and II. Zone-V is the most sensitive, while Zone-II is the least sensitive.
